Documenting Global Health

Ralph Waldo Emerson: The first wealth is health.

This week, I’ve been getting a lot of recognition for a photo I took in Arusha, Tanzania during a medical distribution project with International Medical Outreach (imoutreach.com). I was pleasantly surprised to win $500 from the Emory University Global Health Institute and a place on a list of other photographers acknowledged for artistically capturing moments from the global medical field.

The photo can be scene here¬†along with other winners from this year’s contest.

I took the photo at Maranatha Mission School, founded and directed by our good friend Eric Mukwenda to provide children from low to middle-income families an opportunity to receive an affordable English-language education. Throughout multiple visits, my father and his organization have provided Maranatha with vitamin A, Albendazole, and other medicinal supplies based on targeted needs among the students.

Edit – I wrote a short piece on my visit to Maranatha for The Emory Wheel: ‘Kilimanjaro Concealed’
